Complete Beginner, best place to find free assets to start with?
I am completely new to this and want to learn how to use Gamesalad but I noticed that there is no default art included with the creator. I heard that there is some "educational use" art you can download from Gamesalad but if you use it you are not allowed to publish your app.
I am just looking for somewhere to find some very basic artwork that you can actually publish (with fair credit given) to see how it does without having to sink in a fairly large sum just to get my toes in the water. Googleing "free Gamesalad assets" yields plenty of results but they are all expired, including the download links in the stickied thread in this forum (maybe I did something wrong?)
If I find this to be something I enjoy and I actually know what I'm doing then I am more than willing to pay for artwork. I am not asking for anyone to make anything for me, I am just hoping someone can point me in the direction of some very basic art already available that isn't expired.

opengameart.org has a lot of game art. The licence varies, so be sure to check how to credit each asset if you ever decide to publish something.

My students use http://clker.com which is all public-domain clip art. You can also do a Creative Commons search at http://search.creativecommons.org. Check the box(es) next to "I want something that I can..."

I'd be happy to help with a few free simple assets. It would help boost my portfolio and help you in return.
http://opengameart.org/ has a lot of assets but make sure and check the usage rights for each piece.

When I make demos and need a nice image to stick in, I just pop over to http://www.openclipart.org
It's not all that great for actual games, but if you just need an image of, say, a basketball, or something there's a few to choose from and they can be used with absolutely no restrictions.
